PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS

of the NC Democratic Party

mission statement

Our mission is to prioritize the issues of the working class, the poor, civil and human rights, and environmental justice as the goal of the North Carolina Democratic Party.

Above all, we believe in people over profits.

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have little." - FDR

Progressive pledge

As progressive Democrats, we are not defined by age, race, or gender but by a core set of values and policies that we consider essential to making our society better. Those values are rooted in equal representation in government for all, not one dominated by the wealthy few. The policies we support sit at the intersection of working-class interests with those of race, gender and other aspects and impact local, state, national and international issues.

We pledge to do our part in advancing democracy, equality and equity.

"We must recognize that we can’t solve our problem now until there is a radical redistribution of economic and political power… this means a revolution of values and other things. We must see now that the evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism are all tied together… you can’t really get rid of one without getting rid of the others… the whole structure of American life must be changed." – MLK

COMMUNITY

North Carolina has many voices in our community that are not represented by either parties. As such, many of them have become disengaged from the political process. We are committed to listen to their voices, lift up their concerns and encourage them to reengage in electoral politics to improve our communities.

We are committed to educate our communities on progressive values, especially since progressive populism is the only way to defeat rising right-wing fascism.

Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced. - James Baldwin

PARTY ENGAGEMENT

The Democratic Party is stronger when people of all communities come together to shape the direction of the party. We are committed to encourage progressive Democrats to play an active role in the North Carolina Democratic Party at the precinct, county, district and state level and contribute to the development of a vibrant party that represents the interests of people, not corporations.

“Only the very ignorant and foolish believe that a president who has surrounded himself with Wall Street darlings as cabinet ministers has any serious designs on the trusts.” - Eugene V. Debs

ENDORSEMENTS

North Carolina deserves representation by individuals who will fight for our most vulnerable communities and protect our rights. An essential part of our mission is to identify and support candidates who are committed to advancing progressive priorities when in public office.
